Senior Perspectives
According to the Mental Health
America, suicide rates are highest in the elderly population, which
comprises 20% of the general population. Approximately 40% of
suicide victims are over 60. After age 75, the rate is three times
higher than average, and among white men over 80, it is six times
higher than average. Seniors begin to deal with significant grief
and loss issues with the death of a spouse or close friend.
Additionally, depression due to failing physical health may be a
factor in the high suicide rate in elders.
Depression is not a sign of aging. Wekiva Springs offers
specialized services for both male and female patients over 65 who
are struggling with depression and/or substance abuse.
The purpose of Senior Perspectives is to provide our patients with
individualized treatment that will result in the best outcome
possible and assist seniors to achieve their highest level of
functioning. Our therapeutic environment encourages patients and
family members to take active roles in their treatment. At Wekiva
Springs, we promote the development of permanent therapeutic and
care-giving relationships with other providers of community
resources and services.
Our Senior Perspective Programs are covered by Medicare and can be
accessed by contact our Admissions Department. We can provide
